Muhammad Ali: A sporting personality who changed the worldhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/36452615
Goodnight, Legend. By CpSingleton © 2016
They stole your bike,
You conquered the world.
A shuffle and a dance,
Whilst the lip sped on.
Don’t enjoy it, black man!
Don’t get comfortable with your beliefs, Muslim!
We’re coming to drag your arse to another continent.
Here’s a gun, go do your worse.
Your best is what you did.
You said NO! The Vietnamese never oppressed you.
The establishment threatened jail.
They took your belt.
So be it, you said.
They giggled behind cupped hands as your “best years” flew by.
Legends don’t have “best years”, fools!
Every minute of their lives are the best.
Even as your body broke down and wilfully disobeyed you, your wise eyes smiled.
Not everything you did and said was right. You knew that.
Legends also have their creaky moments.
The times may have altered your thinking, but at least you cared enough to be counted.
Where are all the legends, now you’ve gone?
Who can replace a one off in a world of clones?
2016 stripped us another one off.
What do we have to guide us now?
Look around you, people. See the reflection in another’s eyes.
It’s your time now.
In a forest of dead, concrete trees,
It’s your turn to grow.
Your turn to say: NO!
Grasp the torch that Ali once held.
Even when he shook he inspired.
May he rest and peace and all the light he spread never die.
