Prepare the meat and cakes!
Tidy the gardens and the squares,
Spruce up the rivers and lakes!
Put on your fetes and flowery shows,
Let bunting tangle the trees!
Release the frisbees in the park and
The beach balls to the seas!
Blacken the beef on barbecues!
Pull out the wine and beer!
Scatter the exclamations everywhere,
‘Cause our one day summer’s here!
Time to release those pasty limbs.
The torso’s needing rays!
The one day burn will do the trick,
Despite what medicine says.
Because this is beautiful England and
Summer sun’s so fleeting.
Wind and rain and sometimes hail
Are generally our greeting.
That’s why when dearest smiley sun
Does rear his golden cheeks
We Englanders will revel in
The burn that lasts for weeks,
