Age is NOT Always An Indicator Of Wisdom and Humanity.

The following happened a couple of days ago and, even though I left a lonnnnng status scratching its torrid surface at the time, I wanted to cover the dark subject matter with the gravitas it truly deserves.

Picture the scene:

You’re chatting away to a head-strong, but not unintelligent, seventy-one year old about, of all things, traffic problems that differ in various regions of England. The lady, pristine and sober as a sand dune says the following.

“I used to work as a sales rep’ and travelled up and down the country, but the worst drivers were the white van men outside Birmingham.”

“Why there?” I asked, intrigued.

“Because they were full of black bastards who didn’t indicate, but just pulled out.”

Now, this took a moment to sink in. Yet, even when it did, I questioned whether I’d heard it correctly.

“Sorry?” I asked. “What did you just say?”

“They were full of black bastards who didn’t indicate or drive correctly,” she replied, as if merely mentioning the price of cheese.

Immediately my hackles stood to attention, but I knew anger would get me nowhere at all. Therefore, I said as evenly as I could…

“What the fuck’s colour got to do about anything? Their skins had sod all to do with their ability to drive with care and consideration. You just can’t say that.”

“What, black bastards?”

“Yes,” I replied.

She silently mulled my insistence over. For a moment I thought she may see the light. Until…

“Well, to be fair, the Paki’ taxi drivers in Bradford can just be as bad.”

I, after a few flabbergasted breaths, went on to tell her that she was a bloody dinosaur and we would never move on as a race of humans with such blinkered thought.

I can understand that she is from another era, where it was all fine to say such generalised bollocks, but how hard is it not to grow beyond such backwards times.

In a cold world where people are being shot for no other reason than the colour of their skin, or the difference in their accent; where Neanderthal Wankers in Britain think it’s all well and good to spit at and violently assault hard-working immigrants; where thousands upon thousands of families are displaced by war and greed; a world where religious nuts strap themselves with devices to maim and kill; isn’t it up to the older and “wiser” to lead the good heart charge.

I left her shortly after to catch my train. I can only hope she had some food for thought, but, I sadly doubt it. The planet has too many blockheads stumbling around it’s beautiful self.

Wouldn’t education in compassion from an early age help?

In sure I’ve said that before.

I’m sure I’ll say it again.

Humans will NOT evolve without at least offering respect to one another.

May the sun shine from your smile and fresh water fill your cup wherever you are.

About Chris42

I am a liar! A maker-uper of stories! If this was the 16 (c) I'd be burned as a witch. Fank goodness it is not, eh?! I have four children: two wonderful girls, a fantastic lad and Leeds United. I have no strict genre. I write children's poetry and stories, to edgy, stronger themes. Up until now I have stored them for my own and my family's viewing. Last year i thought bugger it and starred in several short films. One, Playground, which is on the BBC Film Network, used the monologue that I wrote for the audition. You should've seen the face of the receptionist, of the Manchester hotel, where the audition was being held, as I turned up dressed as the psychopath, Gordon. It got the desired effect! I then moved up to Cumbria and wrote and appeared in several live performances on stage. 2012. A local artist, Kayleigh Richardson, commissioned me to write a poem for her to paint a representation. I sent her, The Rise of the Robot Monkey Army. Kayleigh painted a fantastic piece that blew my mind! From that we are collaborating on the Jacob Bear series of stories. Oh and Two's Company is to published, along with seventeen other Sci Fi short stories as part of a collection. Not a bad start to the, so called, last year of the Earth. Now is the time to show the rest of you. I take my themes wherever i see them, whether in reality or dream-world. I hope you enjoy. If not tell me why. If so tell me why. Many thanks and be safe. So far I have published: Jacob Bear's first Christmas,https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007GK872A (UK) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GK872A (USA) Jacob Bear Goes to School https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007JD3OKY (UK) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JD3OKY (USA Jacob's First Words https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007VZWPSC (UK) & http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007VZWPSC (USA) Space Here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007H96M90 (UK) &http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007H96M90#reader_B007H96M90 The Rise of the Sponge Cake Moon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007WWZ16M (UK) & http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007WWZ16M (USA) © Madstoffa, 2012.
